At TED, artist/musician Amanda Palmer talks about her early life and her recent (highly criticized) Kickstarter project. It reminds me of some of the crap indie writers have received for giving their books away for free. Why are people in general so afraid of doing something that's different from the rest of the tribe?
Because nobody asked, here’s my 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs bracket.

Because nobody asked, here's my Stanley Cup Playoffs bracket. Note this is
not what I expect will happen, but what I want to happen because it would
be fun.

I stepped over to Tim's computer to hear this. I'm not a fan of kickstarters as a rule, but this one she really knocked out of the park. That's a HUGE amount, and even better, she's making a living doing what she loves.
ReplyDeleteNot too shabby.
Glad you stole Tim's computer temporarily to listen to this, Ivy! I admire her for trying a new paradigm in this crazy world.
ReplyDeleteAs for Kickstarters, it's one of those things where you need a clear vision for your project. Amanda and her husband had a very detailed layout of what they planned to produce for the original $100,000. What's really cool is you get the products directly from them for the amount you decide to pay.
I've supported three Kickstarters, and I haven't regretted a dime. In fact, I'm wearing my BAMF Girls Club t-shirt right now!
That is very cool.
ReplyDeleteThe Kickstarters that bug me are the ones that haven't done what they were supposed to, but did get the money.
